Dear Friend,
Prisons always scare me . . . .
Elsie and I had been invited to speak at one of the largest prisons in America. It was jam packed with thousands of prisoners.
In fact, it is a hard place to get into. First we had to make a formal application for entrance, which involved a check into our background. Then there is a search process before going through the locked gates.
After we got in, we had to walk across the "yard."
You cant imagine what it was like. Hundreds and hundreds of women . . . some violent, others with emotional problems, and still others who looked like the "girl next door."
Most prisons, because they are so terribly overcrowded, become tinder boxes ready to explode. That was not a comforting thought to dwell on as we crossed the yard.
We finally made it safely to the Chapel.
Elise and I studied the faces of the ladies as they entered. We could tell that some were living in a perverted life style in prison. And others had such sweet faces you wanted to weep with them.
As I ministered Gods Word to these ladies, several faces broke into smiles. They were exited to hear the good news of Christs transforming power.
When I asked how many of them would like to give their lives to Christ, at least 75% of them raised their hands!
Many were crying as they began to experience the joy of finding the Savior. That is exactly why Elsie and I had gone there . . . to try and bring these ladies from the life of hell to a life of joy in Jesus Christ.
We continue to make arrangements for these ladies to come into our program.
Some of them, obviously, are in desperate situations.
That is where you and I come in.
Do you know that you and I can give these ladies the opportunity to be free from the bondage of prison?
God has used the Walter Hoving Home to change so many ladies from convicts to converts from criminals to Christians. And these precious ladies will never have to face life from behind bars again.
But I cant do it alone. . . I need you.
Your prayers and financial support are urgently needed today. You are a vital link to lead these ladies out of the prison to a safe environment, and our Home.
Can I count on you to give a gift today? Any amount . . . $50, $100, $200 or even $1000 would be such a help.
God bless you for what you can do to help us make sure there is a clean bed, good food and a wonderful Christian Home for these ladies.
Elsie joins with me in saying our special thanks and prayers.
Because He lives,
John
